Starkiller – A poor name unleashed?
Man oh man, what an opportunity wasted!

Starkiller – yup if I had that name I’d hide too!
To wake up & find the announced cast list of Star Wars The force Unleashed tarnished by, what can only be described as, one of those bad days at the office. Please, who came up with the name, Starkiller, as Vader’s secret apprentice?!
This is Star Wars lore here in the making…Darth Vader, Greedo, Han Solo even Luke Skywalker all have elements of what makes a good story better with names that stir the imagination.
Starkiller has all the subtlety of a hammer to the testicle. It stirs images of some cardboard spaceship in a Sci-Fi B movie. Knowing how important this character will be for the Star Wars franchise, surely LucasArts could have spent longer on the name?
Come on I dare you to think of a better name & put LucasArts efforts to shame!

Man that really is a terrible name. I can’t think of anything better though because I’m still kind of dizzy from that hammer to the testicle analogy.

As soon as I wrote it it had to stay in…been wanting to write that for some time, mind you I don’t practice it on myself or others!

Starkiller was the original name for Luke…Luke Starkiller, but Lucas changed it to Skywalker. This has been common Star Wars trivia for decades. I like that the TFU team paid tribute to this by adopting it as the codename for the Apprentice.

Sure paying tribute is one thing but it doesn’t rub with me.Lucas changed Luke’s surname to Skywalker for a reason…even as a codename, Starkiller just sounds childish.

I was going to say it’s terrible until FLE pointed out Skywalker. Really, if you hate one, you should hate the other, right? I imagine Starkiller will work fine as long as it’s used the same way — with his first name being equally or more important than his surname.
Or it will have to grow on us.

Well Aaron, Skywalker I believe is a better name & is fitting within the rest of the Star Wars galaxy(or should I say galaxies?).
If Starkiller is a codename alone then what the hell does it mean, he is suppose to hunt down all Jedi as Vader’s apprentice. Starkiller for me, just doesn’t gel.

It’s almost certainly not a codename. It’s a surname, like Skywalker; not a name he was given, but a name he was born with.
The problem with it is that Starkiller is a surname you might expect to appear after the Death Star was built (it could even refer to destroying the Death Star), but this character enters the story before that.
But the name is primarily symbolic, just like Skywalker, Solo, and Vader. It fits the destructive focus of the game.

Well… From the information that’s surfaced recently it’s been shown that Starkiller is simply his codename, ala Red 5, Gold Leader, when communicating with Juno from the ship. His actual name was released as being Galen Marek. While definitely not the most riveting and memorable name, it’s definitely better than simply “Starkiller”.

Andy – Welcome!
Nice find & yes Galen Marek is the full name for Darth Vader’s secret apprentice. I am still interested to find out why he is given Starkiller as a codename – it’s something I’d expect an object to get as a name ala Death Star rather than a figure.
