PS3 Firmware 2.40 problems
Well we did have to open our big mouths didn’t we?
After a number of PS3 owners reported problems with the 2.40 firmware download locking up their PS3s, Sony moved yesterday afternoon & removed the update from their servers for further testing.
Here at Sweet Flag, we managed to get the firmware download & report to have no problems with it at all. The XMB ran smoothly while playing through the review copy of Battlefield: Bad Company all last night, so as Sony mentions; it looks to be a problem for a limited few.
Sony also state that they have had no reported problems from customers that have had their PS3 perform a successful firmware update.
How has the update effected your PS3?

when I downloaded it my ps3 stays frozen on the screen before you log in to your ps3 account (not psn account).

Yes that is the common problem. The PS3 crashes at the screen where you get the wave effect. Have you been able to undo your firmware or does your PS3 stay unusable?

I saw the reports and was too scared to try before they pulled it. I’m sitting tight until we get the all clear.

Games that i used to play at 1080i wont play at that resolution anymore since the 2.4 update. is there a way to revert to the last firmware? thanks in advance

Psn keeps logging me off the network after i updated. Cant play any online games because of that

yea me too i am having the same problem as joakim but i have some help for you joakin call the sony customer comsumer support line the number is 18003457669 they are going to tell you to call your internet service provider and you are giong to have to tell them to open some ports so that the ps3 can go therouth your firewall . they should be able to tell you more.

I’ve Had No Problems, got it a few hours after release, downloaded fine, everything works fine. I am enjoying it.

Just heard there maybe a chance of a new revised firmware (2.41) out later this week. It has not been officially confirmed though.

My PS3 just recently stopped playing PS2 games after the update.
