Sparkling ambition of Warhammer Online
The last few days have seen me play catch up with as much news & views on EA Mythics Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, while finishing off a Boom Blox review in the process(which should be going up on Ripten later this weekend).
One thing that shines through all the podcasts & interviews that I have read so far, is the ambition that EA Mythic have for Warhammer Online. They are quick to note what are the similar themes that WAR has to other MMOs on the market but they have also recognised the mistakes & things that don’t work in these titles, replacing them with more confident approaches.
High social gaming less forced grouping = WAR
For me, the biggest improvement that shines through all hype surrounding Warhammer Online is they way every element of gameplay will effect the standing of your realm. WAR is not about being in with an uber guild so that you can get a chance to play the end game.
EA Mythic conceived WAR to be played with an eye towards co-operative play at all times. To achieve a more sociable game, WAR has this co-op theme running through it’s entire make-up be it guilds, realms, questing or of course RvR.
What I am loving about the whole feel of WAR is push towards high social gaming but without the forced nature that most other MMOs suffer from. Much more a living world than a race to level cap your character. You may think that Public Quests are the only way that WAR is making new ground here but you would be wrong to assume that.
Massively’s extensive WAR coverage
Take a read through Massively’s extensive WAR coverage & you’ll get a great feel for a very unique MMO title.
Thanks to Aaron for the heads-up!
