Second Skin

The premier of this documentary on online gaming was show at the SXSW Film conference & Festival on the Friday just gone.

The synopsis from the SXSW site reads as follows:

Second Skin takes an intimate, disturbing look at computer gamers whose lives have been transformed by the emerging genre of computer games called Massively Multiplayer Online games (MMOs). World of Warcraft, Second Life, and Everquest allow millions of users to simultaneously interact in virtual spaces. Second Skin introduces us to the real people who populate these online virtual worlds. Couples who have fallen in love without meeting, disabled players whose lives have been given new purpose, those struggling with addiction, Chinese gold-farming sweatshop workers, wealthy online entrepreneurs and legendary guild leaders- all living in a world that doesn’t quite exist.”

I am interested in seeing the whole documentary to see what, if any, spin has been placed on the theme of online gaming & gamers.

Maybe Second Skin will be snapped up by a TV company like C4 in the UK…as I’m sure they would give it a good spin on both E4. More 4 & Film4.

I have made initial contact with Pure West to see if I can get a preview of the documentary or maybe an interview, fingers crossed!

That is very interesting, I have met quite a few very cool people in the game, it’s hard to pinpoint what it is that makes these virtual worlds so appealing to so many people…I look forward to seeing more about this one…
