Blood Red Shoes - I wish I was someone better

While at work last night, I heard a track by Blood Red Shoes on the radio. They made a good first first impression. That track was Say Something Say Anything & is out as a CD single which is followed by the bands first full CD album, Box of Secrets, out on the 14th April.

How the band describe themselves, taken from their website:

“with our music we just write whatever feels right to us at the time of writing it, so there’s a variation of lyrical themes and musical ideas. we don’t tend to sit on straightforward structures or ways to play our instruments because we’d get bored and we don’t want to make cheap-shit predictable music. we want to move people, make them dance or shout or get excited, and we don’t want to come off like rock stars or some amazing otherworldy beings - we’re just two people making music and the whole “fan” and “band” divide is boring and old now. we’re all part of the same thing. we’re not in this for fame and fortune, we’re in this because we just always wanted to be in a band.”

I’ll be looking to interview them in the future which will be my first music related interview for about 15 years!

More soon.

I’m surprised their record label didn’t force a bassist on them.

Here’s another British songwriter I like:

I think it works well without one…the White Stripes have made a career out of average percussion without a bass player. From what I have seen Blood Red Shoes have a better two piece dynamic than the WS.

Sorry Aaron am not a fan of folk…

    Hi,
it looks garage rock doesn’t use bassist anymore.
They are nothing similar to the White Stripes.

    Welcome Valerio

I agree nothing like WS…have been waiting for the interview with the band to be returned for what seems an age. I hope Steve hasn’t forgotten again…
