Field notes - Play.com LIVE & PC Zone Mag
Getting ill & then it taking a whole week out of your life sure messes with normal things like getting up to go to work let alone the things you look forward to doing. Safe to say I didn’t get much of my course work done this week.
Nevertheless I did cast out a few stones.
Early Monday I contacted PC Zone magazine regarding freelance work. I wrote a short feature based on the magazines style & the topic was a retro piece on KOTOR. Sad to say I haven’t heard back but I do know the new issue comes out on the 28th & so they are probably busy putting it to bed. I hope more comes from this & I will no doubt call the editor in the early part of next week, if I haven’t heard by then.
I also contacted the company in charge of media relations for the Play.com LIVE event at Wembley Stadium over the 15th/16th March. After a few emails I found out late today that they will be sending out a pair of press passes for the event to me!
Getting excited already & although the full details of the event have yet to be announced some of the details I have uncovered are:
- Primarily be a chance for gamers to get their hands on up-and-coming games, and see sneak previews of games due to be released up until the end of the year.
- Publishers confirmed - Sony, THQ, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and Activision. More to follow.
Will keep you informed when more details filter through, as no official site has been put up yet.
Anyone already planning to go to this?

Unlikely to happen mbp…the article I sent was just to show I could write in the PC Zone style. I may try & use the Play.com LIVE event as a selling point to the publications I approach but if the worst comes to the worst I’ll have a great write up of it here!

blagged it, kinda. i’ve already sold the article to a local newspaper so it’s not really blagging anymore i suppose. if all goes to plan i should be working at gamespot soon. are you a published journalist?

Hi guys, i don`t work for the press, but i do run a website and it`s all about games and games tournaments, we cover events like this and I was wondering if you guys could put me in contact with the organisers of this event, perhaps an email address or something, any information would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
