High flying January

Funny month January.

Enjoyed plenty of views for the month & again some good comments but my gaming mood during the whole has been slightly depressed.

From that my freelance journalism course has taken over that spare time & is going well so far. As time goes on I hope to see more feedback from the posts on this topic & I will be concentrating more on journalism than I have in the past on Sweet Flag.

MMORPG retirement

If you look over January’s posts on Sweet Flag you can see very little in the way of my thoughts on gaming. This reflects my limbo state that I am feeling with the current games crop. Since WoW not one MMORPG has caught my imagination enough to keep me on-line within that world. I am beginning to suspect that there is just too much involvement in this type of game that I can allow myself to endure.

So I have but almost retired from MMORPGs. Sure the past has spoilt me & as I have been involved in MMORPGs in all shapes & forms since 1995, it maybe time for me to take a break from that scene. I find it hard work & very little fun trying to build up relationships within a MMORPG, with the effort being outweighed by all the negative outcomes.

Sweet Flag is still a gamers blog, do not fear. I will no longer be beta testing Mythos but February will see Sweet Flag look through the upcoming games on the horizon, just don’t expect to see any MMORPGs in the mix!

Those stats for January

18 Posts ¦ 95 Comments ¦ 7595 Views

Sweet Flags views this month gone have surpassed all the previous months with a increase of 4652 views over the previous best in a month for views which was December 2007.

It sounds like Spore got pushed back again, with EA saying it will come out “before the holidays” (i.e., before November… I doubt they meant Easter). So I guess that means we’ll see the creature editor demo sometime in the summer.

It’s funny. I know release dates are usually lies, and wishful thinking the rest of the time. But I keep forgetting that when the game in question is something I’m really pumped about, so I’m surprised and disappointed when I hear it’s been pushed back. I was expecting the demo sometime before April, but I’m guessing it’ll be more like July now.

Hey Aaron…yeah I heard these rumblings but I wasn’t going to comment until I heard anything concrete. Has it been officially announced, the release date?

Surely the creature editor demo could be released now? There can’t be wholesale changes looming can there to something like the editors in the game? A cosmetic tweak here & there I can understand but keeping players hankering after such a small element like a demo shows a lack of respect for gamers & their foresight in testing this part of the game before release?

All these delays without a single demo are just heaping more pressure on Spore to be something that it may not be able to live up to.
