Through the Stargate

Reading through the Gamespot’s Stargate Worlds interview, posted 5th Jan ‘08 with Rod Nakamoto, the following points about the Stargate Worlds experience have been defined a little:

› Unlike LotRO where the film/book storyline is rigid in gameplay, Stargate Worlds won’t be holding the players to the storyline of SG-1.

›There’s to be 7 archetypes for players to choose from being:Jaffa, Goa’uld, Asgard, and human soldier, scientist, archaeologist, and commando.

›2 factions, split:Asgard, Free Jaffa, and humans on one side & Goa’uld, Loyal Jaffa, and humans on the other.

›Story arc background will be happening roughly around the events in SG-1 during the Replicator War, the Apophis War, the Tok’ra war with the Goa’uld, and the Jaffa Civil War.

›Atlantis maybe the first expansion pack.

›Beta testing to begin Spring 2008.

›Retail of game expected in the fall of 2008.

It seems a very ambitious project with combat, exploration & the storytelling all deemed of importance in the interview. Rod Nakamoto also states that there are 5 playable worlds already & that a 2008 release was realistic.

Maybe some good old beta testing on the horizon in 2008 already!

I really want to try this game, and not to be too geeky I want to see what the Star Trek MMO is going to be like as well. Though I am not sure if they will be able to maintain the necessary membership due to WoW.

      Hey Phil!

I’d like to be involved in the beta testing on this one so that I have a view on it’s scale before the retail release.

I feel that MMORPGs are going to have a bad time with me this year with Spore being the game of 2008…time will tell!

      Stargate does look good: http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4628/showfileaspr0922175323plg6.jpg

The geek in me says I want to get a PC and play Star Trek…

    5. dmosbon Says:

Well Cat things aren’t looking to good for the Star Trek MMORPG…I take it you use a MAC rather than a PC?

    6. Cat Says:

Nope, I’m on a Laptop, but I wouldn’t want to do gaming on here. Shared graaphics card and all.

    7. dmosbon Says:

Ah! I remember burning out the graphics card on my old laptop that way…hehe.

Stargate may look good I just hope the game itself can match it.

    8. Tipa Says:

I wonder if there’s enough fans of this show to make a successful game. I remember the movie and have seen the ads for the show but only watched it once, and it seemed pretty silly so I never went back. Does this game have any hope of being a success for people who are not hardcore fans of the show? I read your summary of the game and am sad to admit I had no idea what you were talking about.

First, they find Atlantis? Isn’t that on Earth (or was it moved?)

    9. dmosbon Says:

Good question Tipa but I’m sure the developers must know they aren’t going to have something on the scale as WoW on their hands here…unless of course it’s done so well that nobody can resist!

I’m still learning about Stargate as I haven’t seen many episodes of the show & so will have to pass on the Atlantis question…anyone?
