Q&A with CuppaJo(Tabula Rasa)
After a recent post about Tabula Rasa where I had mentioned a few concerns & thoughts about the game mainly no ‘Auction House’, no ‘in game mail’ & the yet to be included PAUs. I had a comment left by the Community Manager of Tabula Rasa, CuppaJo.
CuppaJo didn’t expand on anything too much in the comment but I thought it was a nice touch to leave a remark on one of my posts so I sent an email off asking if put a few questions forward about Tabula Rasa hoping that I may get more of an expansive view of what is going on now & in the near future.
After I got a ‘yeah, ask away’ from CuppaJo & after sending off the questions, I slowly began to feel that I may not get a reply. These guys in the gaming business are busy beyond what I can imagine as busy & as time has gone by I had forgotten about getting a reply.
So it was a nice surprise to find an email this morning with a reply to ALL my questions! Some may still be a little vague but some do highlight that a few of the social aspects of the game need a bit of ‘polishing’ & that they are working on it.
The full Q&A with no edits follows but at the time of writing I haven’t yet ventured back into TR to experience the Military Surplus but I will. If you have, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
§Q&A[correct as of Dec 14, 2007 9:44 PM GMT]
DM(Sweet Flag) -No In game Mail system? I think this is invaluable to gaming within MMORPGs can we expect a system to be in place in the future? If so will it be familiar or done in a new way that suits the Sci-Fi theme of Tabula Rasa?
CuppaJo( Tabula Rasa’s community manager) - We have it on our list of ‘to-do’s but details of the system are not available yet. I think it will probably be a familiar system.
DM - Military Surplus. Is there an expectation date for when this will go live? What if any problems were highlighted on the Test Server? Will each MS be linked as a network so that all listed goods can be viewed at any MS?
CuppaJo - Live now! All MS’s are linked. There were some UI issues and bugs that we found on the test server and got addressed before we sent them to live.
DM - Adding friends. As I see it to add a friend he/she must be online before you are able to add. Is this a bug or a deliberate game stance? Can you explain this stance, if it is one?
CuppaJo - This is just an expansion to a current feature that has not been added yet. It is on a to-do list.
DM…& finally…something a little OT…:) Am very excited about the next questions topic & believe it will win NCSOFT a good deal of respect if it is done well. Other MMORPGs ‘mounts’ have been very dull affairs & Tabula Rasa could attract a number of players with well introduced PAU models.
PAUs…any idea when we may see these on the test server? Will all class APUs be on the test servers at the same time? Will the test server models have any special features ie class buffs, additional attacks?
CuppaJo - I can’t really give a timeline on these. It’s very complicated dev work, so you won’t see them until they are ready. I am not sure if we will roll them out all at once or a class at a time yet. I don’t anticipate test server models being any different than what will be intended to go live. Making two separate versions, one for test and one for live just delays getting them out to live.

As usually a lot of “nays” and nothing exciting. Sometimes I think that TR team includes general british and cupajo, but since british is getting ready for space travel and cupajo is on her own we may not see anything new at all in TR until british is back from space, which will be like in 2009. Auto Assault here I come - says Tabula Rasa.. hehe

Yes,the Military Surplus (MS) stores are Live -and…rather active. As they’ve just been introduced, right now things price-wise are in a state of flux. You see, the current MS is consignment sales - you list the item with a price, if someone likes it they buy..and the MS takes a cut. It’s a small cut, but a cut nonethless. No true auctions yet - they’re still being debugged. Overall the MSs work well at what they’re supposed to be for - functional and effective. Items are searchable down to the piece level (ie, youwant armor, you can search on any individual type of armor, any piece of that type, or select ANY for ALL pieces of that type), level ranges and quality.
There isn’t a MS in each zone, but there is one in each of the major “tier” zones - so there’s one in Wilderness (newbie area), none in Divide (usually 15-20), one in Palisades (where you can hit 30), etx. Items are not bound at the current time, so any item you have can be put up on MS - used or not

Thamks John, Bilbo & Gloomer for your comments…I had heard from some quarters that NCSOFT were bad at customer support but it looks like they try to keep the TR community in the know with regular patches & I have found CuppaJo very helpful especially seeing as this is still technically a fledgling blog.
I hope to have more Q&A with CuppaJo soon & am happy to present questions to her…please email me or comment here.
