100th
5 months, 5152 views, 254 comments & here I still am writing posts for Sweet Flag.
This is post 100…
It’s been a great piece of the fun pie writing posts here & I hope that I am still here in years to come to announce my 1000th post which based on current form will be 5 years from now!
Learning curve
Sweet Flags audience must be a mixed up bunch as you will know if you are one of the readers of the blog, I do tend to post about a range of topics & not just gaming.
The tagline, ‘The heart & soul of a gamer’ was a deliberate play on both the words heart & soul. Gaming blogs tend to err on the ‘mind’ portion in their postings. ‘Mind’ meaning all the mechanics of the gaming experience & all the stats that go with it. I know this is not my strong point & I prefer to post about the social emotion & game feel on a given gaming topic.
Has a learning curve come to Sweet Flag? Well my posting has been spread out over numerous topics & this has seen the blog not obtain a large audience or a audience on the scale of a blog like Gitr knows WoW. Sweet Flag’s readership has grown for sure but I have learnt to be more cautious when considering a new topic & if the writing fits in with the rest of Sweet Flag’s past posts.
Now I don’t consider that I am self censoring my writing in this approach. More I am trying to refine my writing so that there’s a continuity in the posts on Sweet Flag even when they are on unrelated topics.
Topics & Posts
In November I decide to add a link to the Annals page, namely ‘Recommended Reading’. This will allow new & old readers alike to view posts on the blog that had grabbed readers attention & had an active discussion running through the comments to said posts.
As a reader of other blogs, I can understand the need for a way to find the juiciest posts on a blog & then gauge if its a place I want to spend my time on. Hopefully here on Sweet Flag the readership will use this option to dig out old gems from the blogs past.
Some topics here on Sweet Flag have never taken off with the reader or the writer. One such has been reporting on TV Shows even though I am still enjoying Heroes & a number of other shows right now. I may possibly round up the TV shows of 2007 at the end of the year.
Is there something you would like me to take my hand to & blog about that I haven’t already done so?
The Bloggers
I have to give my respect to all the bloggers out there, many of whom post day in day out with hardly any commenting going on via their posts. On Some blogs you can understand why people that find them don’t bother to comment there…as they are plain awful!
Other bloggers can suffer from lack of an active readership because they haven’t ‘found’ the right readership.
Surely the audience will find you?
Well it doesn’t & I think that’s one of the biggest misconceptions when blogging. Getting an audience doesn’t happen because you write well, oh no it needs some hard work on the behalf of the blogger to get involved in moving an audience towards his words in his blog.
As a good percentage of commentators on blogs also have their own blog too it does no harm to read what they have to say & comment on their posts. This will move them to you & naturally it may move some of their readers to your blog also.
Next 100 posts..?
Should bring me close to a year of blogging Sweet Flag in June 2008. A 100 more stabs at football, gaming & general hokum to come here at Sweet Flag.
All cheer!
What more could you ask for?

Indeed! Congrats! Many more hundreds to come, I’m sure. I am eagerly awaiting my 1,000th post sometime in the next year, and I’ll be sure to pay respects back when that momentous day arrives.
It’s been a joy to see your blog and writing evolve into what we have today and I look forward to seeing what happens in the coming months.

Gratulations on the big 100 Posts DM.
Reading your all too correct comments about the effort required to get people to read a blog makes me fee a bit guilty about my own oft neglected blog. I know some of what needs to be done to get a blog read - you need to post regularly (several times a week) on topics that people are interested in. You need to immerse yourself in the “blogosphere” reading many other blogs, leaving comments and linking to them in your own blog. I know all this but I find knowing and doing are not the same thing.

mbp - my philosophy is a little bit on the lines of, ‘build it & they will come…’ To me the writing is what I live for. If I keep writing then in time I will gain more readers but there will always be an ebb & flow to revisiting readers…most of the readers that do comment on my posts are bloggers themselves & are use to writing down their thoughts & so a more natural thing than for readers that stumble on your blog for a quick bit, let’s say, of gaming information.
Remember posting what only interests others will be ‘hara-kari’ to your blog

Gratz DM!
“A 100 more stabs at football, gaming & general hokum to come here at Sweet Flag.”
While I’m not much of a football nut, I enjoy the hokum and gaming very much. Although I did get some FIFA in this past holiday and loved it. I think I need to buy a new console now.
I appreciate you adding the recommended reading section DM. It was a good read.

Thanks Brackish…Fifa 08 is a good title but I have only tried it on my PS2.
Keep checking back on the recommended reading as I add to this as posts become popular within the readership over time. Glad you enjoyed the hokum!
