Liber Turzanski(9) – War is…
…not Warcraft
One thing that’s always concerned me with WoW was it’s title or should I say the ‘Warcraft’ part of it. It makes it very clear, it’s World of Warcraft.
With a title like that you expect to be engulfed in a war, persistently fought out by the many factions that there are in WoW so much so that it’s on your mind when you play in one form of other. The thing is I never felt involved in a war in all the time I have played WoW, sure there’s PvP but that can be classed more conflict than actually war. Maybe it’s only a little detail in what is a very big & well made game but I feel glad that in my step away from WoW into TR, that there is a war to be fought.
War in TR is everywhere. It gets under your finger nails as you hit the mouse button & flashes through your mind when you close your eyes to sleep…am I sounding a little over stimulated?
The point I am trying to infer is there is a constant battle going on around you even if your character doesn’t get involved all the time.
Human npcs battle the Thrax that spawn everywhere via teleportion from small Thrax air units that break atmosphere & hover just above the ground. The spawn points may stay relatively to the same spots but the number & frequency is nicely varied to offer some surprises. Liber only being 9 levels in obviously hasn’t seen all the areas of combat but surely it can only get better?
Tabula Rasa suits my play style fairly well. It may not suit everyone’s but as I use to love playing FPS like Doom, Quake, MechWarrior, TR gives me that with it’s nice blend of FPS combat but set into a massive new environment, I can only expect my enjoyment to grow as TR grows.
Talking of growth & also a past game, MechWarrior, TR is looking to add a Personal Armour Unit for your character to obtain at level 40. Yup it’s your first taste of a ride in TR but I do believe it will have other benefits as well. Each class will have a specific unit with some resembling the AFS Mech.
Here’s a quote from the piece here about the Spy classes PAU:
Sleek, black, and with an imposing stance, the Spectre would be an awe-inspiring sight on any battlefield. The Spectre seems like the epitome of the Personal Armor Unit; it didn’t appear to be extremely large in the concept art and could be a more stealth oriented PAU. Moderately-sized spider-like limbs extended away from his back and hooked around the front of his body, producing a humanoid yet insect-like appearance for this particular PAU. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe Paul and Starr said this PAU was specifically for the Spy. ¹
All very MechWarrior & brings some nice memories back!
…communicating with the troops
This I admit has been a little bit of a disappointment within Tabula Rasa as it is at present. If the game carries on with so little social tools included I fear the community of players will struggle to be anything more than soloists that group on occasion.
With no In Game Mail system or the ability to ‘add friends’ when they are not online or an Auction House system or an official forum seems a little odd. Surely this will only stunt the playing community in Tabula Rasa?
You would think as a member of the AFS, communication would be vital in the war against the Bane but where is the option to send messages to each other or to exchange goods via an Auction House?
I do hope this is something that will be added into the game in the near future & that NCSOFT are just tweaking out these social systems.
Have you heard anything along these lines that TR will get these?

@ CuppaJo
Welcome & thanks for the comment. Always nice to hear from the game company themselves. Can you divulge anything else that is due to come up on the test server?
