Gorze(17) – The Barrens: Auctioneer & Hunter bags
Yes I did make the right decision back in the post I made in July concerning my thoughts on which from the two, Alliance & Horde, I should choose to play.
Never playing a horde character before made that decision a little easier but I did worry that playing Horde would be a turn off.
No turn off yet!
To be truthful other than the avatar itself the differences between the Alliance & Horde aren’t many, well not when it comes to game-play. The Hunter class has been enjoyable & looks to be a keeper, my last attempt to level a character gave me a level 21 Draenei Shaman but I shall keep to my Hunter’s path & not stray into the land of the alts.
I shall continue to post my Gorze specific posts in the manner to which I have with this post i.e I have noted in the title of the post that ‘(17)’ is the current level of Gorze followed by a title that sums up the post as best as I can. This should help readers to follow my progress with Gorze from here on in through levels & areas of WoW.
Auctioneer & Bags
So still without a guild or any allies to party with, I thought to be selfish for the time being & rake in as much capital as I can for Gorze.
To help with this I searched for a new version of the Auctioneer add on. In the past I have used this to good effect. It’s a handy in that allows you to keep track of the markets at the Auction House & try to make some gain from your unwanted items. So I downloaded version 4.0.5 & Gorze has begun to sell off his white or higher items. Gorze is desperate for more storage space, as a backpack & two small 8 slot bags are just not enough…
Boring as it is but as with any new character in WoW you only start out with a backpack. This alone is not enough storage space for all your items let alone anything you collect from mobs & as I have been finding, having another mouth to feed in Fritz, hunters really do need alot of space.
This got me thinking…
…do Hunters have they’re own class bag?
The short answer is no.
I checked over at the official forums & there has been some discussion about them but I doesn’t seem to be a big issue with hunters…but considering Warlocks, Engineers, Herbalists, Jewel crafters & Enchanters all have there own specific bag then why not a Hunter?

I spent most of my WOW time as a hunter and loved it. I don’t know if you have got to level 10 yet but once you get a pet you will never look back.
The only annoying thing (they may have changed it since my time) is that you can’t use your bow from close range. I never did get the hang of kiting so once a mob got in close to me I was usually dead!
I guess you could call a quiver a “hunter class bag” but it doesn’t give you more space it actually takes up a bag slot.

Oh and I too was a big fan of auctioneer. So much so that I used to spend about a half an hour every day in the auction house buying and selling stuff and I made more cash from trading than from questing.

Yeah the quiver or bullet bag does hold all your ammo but it takes up a bag slot leaving you with less room. Also MBP you still can’t use your bow or gun at close range but when patch 2.3 hits that is changing the deadzone will be 1 yard instead of 8.

Yup, Auctioneer FTW! I used to play the market quite a bit myself, once you get an idea of the value of certain items you can usually do quite well, but it did take quite a bit of work, logging in for half an hour early in the morning hours usually paid off the best, people would post items in the evening or after raids and before the masses had a chance to scan the system I would pick and choose the best deals and repost…profits were good most of the time, always on the alliance side for me, not sure but maybe it was due to a lack of population on the horde side I didn’t fair quite as well…then again there is always the cross faction auction, but the fees they charge sometimes don’t make it worth it…

When it comes down to it with the other classes/professions, those bags take up a slot, too. It’s really no different for hunters. We could use a bag instead of a quiver/ammo bag, but then we’d lose the +speed that those afford.
In the beginning, it’s a slot sacrifice, but up around 40, it really comes down to getting a big ammo container and just deal.
Off the top of my head, the top ammo container is around 20-24 slots, so you’d be good to go for a good long while without re-filling. Nothing sucks more than running out of ranged ability in the middle of a raid. At least I’ve never done that as a hunter.

True Gitr the speed add is huge and running out of ranged period sucks.

@ mbp yes Gorze now level 17 & I expect I’ll just get use to the feel of soloing then a guild will come along with a join request…I have signed 1 guild charter recently just to get them started. No idea if it formed or not.
@ Lance, Gitr sure I know theres a compromise here when it comes to bags & quivers etc. Don’t you think these class specific bags would be better if they had attributes for that class.?
@ Sean I believe the server I am on has a low horde population & the low level areas seem to bear this out from current experience. I haven’t used Auctioneer long enough to know if the market is weak because of it…but I’m sure there will be killings to be had!

Well I am not sure how the other class bags work since I have never taken anything but my warrior, my hunter and a Mage past lvl 15 but the quivers and ammo bags give a speed increase. Now granted any class can get this small buff but really no other class needs to carry a arrow quiver other than a hunter.

I can only to speak from a Warlocks perspective. I currently only have a 16 slot soul bag and that never seems to be enough. I have the back pack and the rest of my bags are 14 slots. That seems like enough room but alas no. I think hunters need more room just because you guys need to feed your pet as well, at least if I had it in my power I would give it to you. Though I am waiting to dual Huntr one day to see which is better; Warlock or Hunter.

@ Lance ah ok so with that speed buff it would be unlikely that the hunter class would get another buff from another ‘class’ container. How about a Hunters survival kit which could contain fire wood, food, etc & buff cooking when equipped?
@ Phil hunter v ‘lock hmmm that would be a duel I’d like to see…

My hunter had one bag for ammo, one bag for food, leaving 3 bags for stuff and leather. In hindsight I think 3 stacks of food should be enough. (Just keep tabs on your supplies.)
I think Leatherworkers will be getting their own bag in the future patch. 20 and 24 slot is what I’ve heard. Too, the “dead zone” has been reduced but not eliminated in the patch as well.
Oh, yeah, Hunters are a Warlock’s worst nightmare. Ranged attack, Intimidation to interrupt a spell, Bestial Wrath to ignore the fear. Dead Warlock. A little deep in the Beast Mastery tree, but once gotten you’ll have to try it out in Alterac Valley.
What spec are going with? I always liked Beast Mastery for soloing since I want to keep the action at my pet, not my corpse.

Hello there Kinless.
I have gone with BM for my build with Gorze. I agree that with BM you can toughen out yourself & pet for soloing & that really is the staple when first starting out in WoW.
Soloing also seems to be the main activity within the Barrens on my server, as I hardly ever see low level player activity in this area. Yet to ‘party up’ here…
