Strength in numbers or die alone?

This week has been catch up mostly.

I spent Friday afternoon & evening installing, paying a months sub & then patching World of Warcraft. The patching slowed my PC down a little so it gave me time to go over our Bermuda photos & notes I had made but ultimately I felt too tired to attempt writing up a post on that just now.

Guilds, Buttered Monkeys & long term WoW

Now that I am back in action within WoW I’d really like to be involved in a guild again.

The first 15 levels that I leveled Gorze to I didn’t make any real friends along the way & I was happy to do the solo thing. I was giving WoW a months probation from which I was due to make a decision to carry on playing or not.

With my thoughts being positive about playing long term again I have to be clear why I’m going back.

To this end I have decided to level just 1 class & not to feel pressured into playing by the game itself. Time is a precious thing & a balance is needed.

Guilds are pivotal for MMORPGs.

In the most part they are a ram-shackled grouping of players that find themselves playing in the same time zone & can level together. Although this is not the only factors that form guilds, they seem to be the strongest reasons for guilds to that gel early on & keep at least a core membership.

From the previous guilds that my characters have been in, I can say that maybe I have made 1 friend that I still keep in touch with, hello Jonny. This sounds a little low but consider the medium upon which we met & that I have yet to met this person in an environment outside of a PC.

Just before I headed off to the sun MBP made an interesting post with regards to guilds in WoW. I had asked him if he intended ever to return to WoW as he now plays LotRO. He’s response in this post was not favourable.

I read his post over a number of times while making my mind up about returning to WoW & he does make some valid points about the end game’s lack of respect for guilds. I just prey over time Blizzard address this well enough.

I do now feel the need to join a guild which has a casual outlook to the overview of WoW but then again I don’t wish it to be too casual. I just hoping grouping is easy to find at Gorze’s present level & on his server as this will be a sure fire way to rub shoulders with a few players that belong to guilds.

My long term read WoW blogger, Gitr runs a good casual guild on a US server & naively I thought I could join him & fellow Buttered Monkeys…just love that name! Messages were sent & I joined the forum etc while I began to install WoW.

All was shattered of course as I have since discovered that to play on the US servers you would need the software from there & then start another account with Blizzard US. Thanks for the offer, Phil but I think I will stick with Gorze on Kul’Tiras EU.

So it’s 1 character & 1 aim…the aim being to squeeze all the fun out of WoW & to soak it up like some sun-worshiping avatar.
