September falls…

September meant Bermuda for me.

I wrote little in September but much came from the month in experience…a Bermuda post will be made later this week.

PC Restore

While preparing to write this post, I struggled to get a good connection first into my WordPress account & then most websites in general. I spoke to my ISP & made a regression to a restore point at the beginning of September, once my connection had been shown to be running well & clearing my cache, cookies & reinstalling Firefox all had no effect. The restore point didn’t change my poor connection.

Something unknown on my PC was causing this?!

Frustration began to set in as I had been away from writing my blog for almost 2 weeks. I wanted to write!

As all else was failing I decided to return the PC back to its original state on purchase by doing a PC Restore. Most of my files had been backed up anyway so it wasn’t a big hardship & I had promised myself that I would do a PC restore before the end of the year as I felt that the PC was a little tied up in the number of unused software that had been installed on it.

Am just hope my Itunes library is remembered once I reinstall the software!

Fine Tuning

Being away from the blog while in Bermuda, gave me some much needed time to reflect on what I give importance to in my life.

I am married & anyone who is or has been married knows it’s a very fine balancing act in that both the people involved have their ideas & thoughts considered. Sharing quality time together can be an act that is taken for granted to happen.

I know on reflection that there are times when I read a blog too many or even read too many blogs that are the same & singular in their topic. This struck me hard when I first looked through my Google Reader feeds after 2 weeks & I had over 100 posts to trail through, a number of which regurgitated the same news article about a game.

Reaching 37 years of age, good time management of both leisure & work time has begun to bother me. Sifting through numerous ‘gaming blogs’ just to be reading the same post time & again is not one of my better uses of time, so those feeds had to be culled!

I wish the same could be same of my gaming…

Gaming

I have no installed game on my PC.

Bioshock will have to go back on but I’ll have to start over, as I have lost the game saves.

World of Warcraft will also have to be placed back on. Not looking forward to that one but am eager to get back to my Orc Hunter & get into a guild set up of some kind.

Travian & Duels are the two browser games I have flirted with in September. If WoW is back on the cards then I may have to cull these…ok I know I will have to!

If I had to, really had to, I’d give up WoW in a heartbeat for my wife. On the other hand, she wouldn’t do that to me because of what fun I have playing a writing.

It reminds me of a Dr. Phil one day when the wife didn’t like her husband being a stunt actor or riding his motorcycle. When it came right down to it, Dr. Phil said that she would not like the man he would become if she took that away from him because that is part of who he is.

I’m glad your wife is understanding and that you are introspective about how you spend your time. I’m down under 20 hours per week, all of it being when my wife is getting ready or sleeping for the next day anyway.

It’s a good life we live.

    Hey Gitr!

I tend to do most of my PC related stuff either when the wife is sleeping or on a late shift…is that 20 hours of WoW?

Good to see you made the plane ride home safely…I know how those rides can be sometimes, so did the reformat work on your PC? I think it is way past due for me to do the same thing on my laptop, still has the original install from when I bought it in Apr 05…heh
But surprisingly with all the cleaners, malware scanners, and antivirus scans I do it runs pretty well…but of course at this point it could probably be running even better if I did a fresh install of the OS…
Someday my wife and I will take a vacation, until then the fine balancing act will remain something I will work on…

@Sean the reformat did work which is a relief but I did also have to clean my PCs fan vents due to excessive dust.

When was your last holiday away?

  5. Sean Says:

Aye, I need to do that as well, I noticed I am having more frequent restarts on my older machine and my wifes pc also, about time to open up the hood and get all those dust bunnies out, I use the leaf blower, which surprisingly works wonders, I think it gets more dust out than a tiny can of compressed air and after I blow the hell out of the insides I use a vacuum attachment and finish the job, then wipe it down with a cloth in case I missed anything…my wife thinks I am a bit over the top, as far as a real vacation? Jeez, I guess I went home this past summer, spent time with family, I don’t really take real vacations I guess, nowhere special anyway, the wife and I promised ourselves we would do something special for our 10 year anniversary, next December…so I should start planning ahead and seeing what we can get into…

10 years eh…why not try a cruise? I saw around 6 or so cruise ships pull into Hamilton when I was in Bermuda & the impression I got from the passengers was always good, they loved it! I haven’t tried a cruise myself but have added it too my list of things to do one day.

My PC runs so much smoother now that I am being very picky what software to install back on! I’ll have to put Bioshock back on as I have missed playing that & no doubt WoW will go on this month too.

I tried to defragment for the first time in months and got the blue screen of death. I tried again and the same thing happened, so my memory will just have to remain fragmented for now.

I’ve abandoned Duels as well. I’ve got half-a-dozen games I want to try, in addition to the betas I’m already in, but I’m not sure when they’ll get my attention. The latest addition is some sort of card game called Berserk.

Ahh, Bermuda. A beach would be nice right now.

  8. dmosbon Says:

@ Aaron never had the blue screen of death on my current PC, sounds a little scary if all you are trying to do is defrag your drive!

    Are you currently playing WoW?

  9. mbp Says:

Welcome back DM. I think a game free period once in a while is a necessary respite in the life of a gamer. It gives you a sense of perspective. I got a great break during my own vacation. That said I am now back to playing Lotro 3 hours a day.

  10. dmosbon Says:

Yeah mbp I am ready to resume my WoW saddle, thing is the patching process has taken most of this evening & am still going.

3 hours of LotRo a day? Close to a day each week…is that still classed as casual!?
