SPORE – Creature Editor Demo

With there being confirmation of a playable creature editor demo before the release of the game, I had a little search around to find the latest video of the creature editor being put through it’s paces.
This seems to be the most recent from SIGGRAPH August 2007.

It’s crazy how quickly those buildings went from looking like Easter eggs to looking like WW1 bombshells.
Considering EQ2’s pre-release character editor occupied me for days, I think it’s safe to say Spore’s creature editor will easily keep me busy for weeks.
This game, by the way, has attracted the interest of a lot of non-gamers I know. If there’s anyone you know who you’ve always wanted to convert into a gamer, this is your opportunity.

Hello Aaron, I had to dig your comment out of the spam bin…my apologies for that.
I have heard rumours that the creature editor demo for Spore will allow you to upload your creations so that they may be considered for the game release. I haven’t yet found any news that backs up this. Heard anything along those lines?

The wait shouldn’t be longer than March ‘08 now but we’ll know if things are on track if the creature editor demo comes out before the end of the year.
Have you guys preordered the game yet? Play.com has it listed for preorder for 7th March.

I’m not going to pre-order until a I believe in a release date (so, a month before release). They said they’d release the creature editor demo “several weeks” before release, so I don’t expect that until sometime next year. Maybe I’m just jaded, but release dates in this industry are worth next to nothing.
My understanding was that your demo creatures will be useable in the game, but I can’t recall where I read that.

I am surprised there has been no announcement about the creature editor demo by this point in January…the only bit of news lately that I have found is the expected release of a MAC version of the game!

Most likey you heard that creatures from the demo editor would be in the final game from Will Wright himself in an interview. I can’t remember which it was but was certainly recentish (Sept 07 I think)… Its so you’ll actually have other creatures on your home planet instead of just you running around hehe
Who knows, you might even come face-2-face with “one you made earlier”

I think it’s very poor that we still await an editor demo when that part of the game has got to be finished by now & it doesn’t have to fully reflect the final product either…very poor!

It’s a MSO thats what Will Wright sayed in one of the videos i watched as you don’t actually play with other people you download what other people have made to balance out your ecosystem and if you don’t have net there proberly store a big batch of the demo creatures sent in on to the disc so you can play offline as well

As an amature 3D artist I can’t wait for this game.
I would love to see my creations spring to life without buying or creating a game engine, and needing coders just to see my critters interact.
That’s why I also completely get why it is not a mmo.
A lot of people will make some stuff quick with the magic of the editor but also a lot of people will put a lot of time, effort and creativity in a species, designing the species, the buildings, working everything out to the jewel you wanted to create and be rewarded with the fact your critters are interactive!
Now imagine having worked on such a labour of love for months and wake up to see it’s been destroyed, or face some kid who rushed through the interactive part come around with his ufo and blows your months of work to bits just because he felt like it.
I think some mmo playability will be done, I have no idea why they didn’t think of instancing.
Want a little war? Agree to an instance , both planets are copied, or both cities on opposite sides of 1 planet or something like that.
Your real creation would be safe since you are instancing a copy of it.
But I think something like that might be added in a future patch or god forbid, expansion.

I like your thinking on this you may like to check out a post at Anyway Games blog about Spore modelling, here’s the link.
For now Mr Wright wants Spore to be a single player experience that is populated by items etc created by other players. You will get to see who made what & will be able to leave comments for the creator. Also I believe stats for everything you create will be store in a Sporepedia…maybe Spore doesn’t need the typical PvP MMO experience?!

I’ve heard a rumor saying that instead of coming out in may, it will be coming out in march ‘09.

its coming out september 7th 2008…about 5 and 1/2 months from when im leaving this comments…ive been waiting for this game for years…hurry up already! the original animation was fine!!! just give me the old copy…idc about the glitches! and kael…pls…no expansion lol…i dont want another 3 yrs of agonizing, torturous, pain filled, of suspense building misery!!! lol. seriously tho…gonna be an awesome game.

my dad says they must be fixing stuff but they cant be cos if you look on youtube about it, they are showing a live adience about the full game
from the start age… to the space age….
i have also found out on there that you can abduct different animals and place them on moons and watch them explode!! you can make volcanos and creat air on a non air planet so cool.

The reason why they want to release it in the EU is that it has a more lucrative market

@ TK mann I can’t see why 2 days early would make any real difference in sales, why not release it on the same day worldwide…2 days? 2 weeks early would have been nice!

I’m undecided. I’ve read that Societies sucks, though the expansion is said to make it better. I don’t care about The Sims Carnival SnapCity. I haven’t tried a SimCity game in many years, and I’d like to, but I’m not sure it’s worth 40 bucks. SimCity 4 and “a” Spore CE demo? I’d jump on it in a heartbeat any other year, but I need to save my money for all the great games due this fall and winter.

Cheers Aaron, surely this is not the only way to get the Creature Editor!? It could be the earliest way to get it though. Hmm…torture seems to be the way of things when you mention Spore.
Simcity Box…well I have none of the titles, maybe I could push for a promo copy from EA.

maybe get the spore CE demo from newzbin or something… you know and ilegle copy…
that is if it does not come out on its own or being able to download it off the internet…
like gamespot or filefront… much easier…

“The free Creature Creator has about 25-percent of the creature making parts from Spore. The retail version will have 100-percent.”
I’ll be extremely disappointed if the full version doesn’t come “free” with my pre-order. Though, honestly, if they asked me for 5 bucks to play with the full version next month, I’d hand that much over in a heartbeat.

actually spores demo is gonna be out this spring it has and the actualy game has online creature systems meaning you might see some of your freinds cretures warndering around and if you kill them off they wont spawn in your game but in no way have you hurt your freinds gameplay also there will be online i think

there is no online play it is not a mmo!

you can just get other players creatures, buildings, other towns, other planets, and even their veicals and space ships…
